Munich Airport opens new Terminal 1 pier to expand capacity and retail offer
Munich Airport has officially opened its new Terminal 1 pier, marking a major milestone in its infrastructure development. The new facility adds around 95,000 square metres of space and can accommodate up to six million additional passengers per year, strengthening the airport’s capacity for non-Schengen traffic.
The pier combines modern architecture with updated operational processes, including centralised security checks and improved passenger flows. Designed to enhance comfort and efficiency, it features spacious waiting areas, advanced technology, and a layout aimed at delivering a smoother travel experience.
At the centre of the new development is a marketplace concept with around 20 retail and service outlets, including international brands and new dining options. The expanded commercial offer is intended to create a more attractive environment for passengers while reinforcing the airport’s positioning as a leading European hub.
