Nice Côte d’Azur Airport opens Terminal 2 extension
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has inaugurated the extension of its Terminal 2, marking a significant milestone for France’s second-largest airport by passenger numbers. The opening ceremony on 13 April was attended by high-profile guests, including the French Minister of Transport, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, and local and regional authorities.
The expansion responds to capacity pressures that have been building since 2019, as demand has consistently exceeded the airport’s 14 million annual passenger limit. Covering approximately 23,000 m² and increasing passenger-accessible areas by more than 30%, the project was delivered in three phases: an enlarged non-Schengen departure lounge and new VIP lounge completed ahead of summer 2025; a new boarding pier giving direct access to six aircraft stands; and a new check-in building with 36 desks and an upgraded baggage handling system. Together, these raise the airport’s overall capacity to 18 million passengers.
The extension was also designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating geothermal energy and photovoltaic panels covering more than 10% of the building’s energy needs, and increasing capacity without raising CO₂ emissions. More details are available in the airport’s official announcement.
