European airports reaffirm their commitment to Net Zero
Europe’s airports have reaffirmed the scale and direction of their Net Zero commitment, with the latest update of the ACI EUROPE Net Zero Resolution seeing 36 airports operating Net Zero facilities, more airports committing to this goal and anticipating their targets. As airport leaders gathered in Prague for the 36th ACI EUROPE Annual Congress & General Assembly, the message is clear: Net Zero is non-negotiable for airports.
The updated Net Zero Resolution shows that 328 airports across 38 countries are now committed to achieving Net Zero emissions under their direct control by 2050 or earlier. Of these, 106 airports have set a target of reaching Net Zero by 2030. Together, these airports account for 83% of European passenger traffic, underlining the breadth of engagement across the continent. The Resolution continues to expand, with 14 new airports joining this year.
Among them, 36 airports have already reached Net Zero for emissions under their direct control (Scopes 1 and 2). This figure has more than doubled compared to last year, reflecting accelerating progress across a growing number of airport operators.
Originally launched in 2019, the ACI EUROPE Net Zero Resolution commits airports to achieving Net Zero emissions for sources under their direct control. A key requirement of the initiative is the development of publicly available decarbonisation roadmaps, setting out clear and measurable pathways towards delivery. To date, 109 roadmaps have been submitted.
As the sector continues to scale up its efforts, the ACI EUROPE Net Zero Resolution remains a cornerstone of Europe’s airport climate strategy, translating collective ambition into measurable and accountable progress.
