EASA opens consultation on final AI Concept Paper, completing its AI Roadmap 2.0
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has released Proposed Issue 03 of its Concept Paper on Artificial Intelligence, and it is now open for a ten-week consultation. This is the final Concept Paper deliverable foreseen under the EASA Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2.0: the conclusion of a journey that has been years in the making.
Building on Issue 02, which already covered Level 1 AI (“human augmentation/assistance”) and Level 2 AI (“human-AI cooperation and collaboration”), this new issue completes the technical scope of the Roadmap. It broadens the framework to additional AI techniques, including reinforcement learning and symbolic AI, and explores Level 3 AI applications, “advanced automation,” opening the way to new types of operations where the human end user may be remotely present, or not present at all, during the operation.
EASA describes this proposed Issue 03 as an important vector of exploration for the whole aviation community, supporting the continued development of a human-centric AI trustworthiness framework. Stakeholders are invited to send their feedback no later than 12 August 2026. Find out more here.
