Belfast City Airport sets out £200 million expansion plans

Belfast City Airport has set out draft plans for up to £200 million in private investment as part of the next phase of its Master Plan 2040. The proposals include expanded passenger facilities, new airfield infrastructure, improvements to airport access, a new multimodal forecourt, additional parking and complementary development, including a potential hotel. The plans do not include an extension of the existing runway.

The airport is also proposing changes to its existing Planning Agreement, including increasing the annual aircraft movement limit from 48,000 to 61,000 and extending scheduled operating hours to 22:30. The proposals are now entering a consultation process, with planning applications potentially following later this year.

The proposals are the next step in delivering the airport’s Master Plan 2040, which sets out a vision to serve up to 7 million passengers per year while supporting connectivity, economic growth and sustainability. The plan also includes potential improvements to public transport, including a future rail connection, as well as on-site renewable energy and other sustainability measures.
