WHO deems duty-free tobacco ‘not a significant channel’ for illicit trade
ACI EUROPE has welcomed a key decision by the World Health Organization not to classify duty-free as a significant channel for illicit tobacco trade.
The decision recognises the duty-free sector’s trusted, transparent, and secure supply chain. Through sustained advocacy and collaboration among industry partners, airport members, and representative bodies, the sector reaffirms the integrity of the duty-free supply chain and its vigilance in ensuring authenticity across all products sold. This is backed by robust research, including a 28-market study by the Duty Free World Council that found no illicit trade issues.
The outcome is expected to have a positive impact on the travel retail sector and reinforce the integrity and vigilance of the duty-free model. Find out more here.
