Heydar Aliyev International Airport serving Azerbaijani capital city Baku and Ganja International Airport, its regional counterpart, are the latest airports to join ACI EUROPE, extending the association’s reach to a new country – Azerbaijan. A delegation from ACI EUROPE presented Samir Rzayev, the president of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, with the official membership certificate at the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference 2024 held in Frankfurt.
Samir Rzayev, President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, highlighted the benefits of this new collaboration: “Joining ACI EUROPE is a significant event that opens new horizons for us and is an important step towards development and improvement. This will allow us to improve the quality of service further, apply best practices, and strengthen the position of Heydar Aliyev International Airport in the global aviation arena.“
Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI EUROPE, said: “I would like to extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the pan-European airport community represented by ACI EUROPE to Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the key gateway serving Azerbaijan’s capital city, Baku. I look forward to working closely with the airport on critical issues for the industry, encompassing sustainability and decarbonisation, financial and operational resilience, and the development of competitive connectivity for the communities we serve. With Heydar Aliyev International Airport as our brand new member, we hope to bring the airport closer to its peers across Europe and foster new enriching connections based on knowledge and best practice sharing.”
The accession of Azerbaijani airports to ACI opens unique opportunities for active cooperation with European and global airports, including facilitating the development of global aviation policy and legislation. Baku and Ganja airports will have the right to participate in accreditation programs to improve service quality and passenger experience, increase capacity, enhance environmental management, as well as obtaining professional accreditation and new training opportunities for managers.
