Saint-Tropez Airport to build solar farm with agricultural use
Golfe de Saint-Tropez Airport has announced plans to develop a 6-hectare photovoltaic park. The project, run in collaboration with Vensolair, aims to generate around 8 GWh of electricity annually, enough to cover the airport’s future power needs and supply nearby municipalities.
What makes it stand out is its dual purpose: alongside solar energy generation, the land will continue to be used for agricultural activity. The layout has been designed to allow the return of sheep farming, which was the land’s historical use. Solar panels will be mounted at a height of at least 1.5 metres and spaced to permit access for agricultural machinery. Existing trees around the site will help shield the installation and create a green buffer near airport operations.
Construction is expected to begin in 2028, with commissioning targeted in 2029. The airport views the project as a key step in its “Cap 2030” roadmap towards carbon neutrality, combining renewable energy, biodiversity protection and the preservation of local agricultural heritage.
