SAF roundtable in Brussels South Charleroi Airport
On the 16th of January, Brussels South Charleroi, Wizz Air, Airbus, and SAF producer Moeve, together with ACI EUROPE, convened a round table discussion at the Charleroi airport, focusing on the critical topic of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
ACI EUROPE’s Director of Sustainability, Alexandre de Joybert, participated in the event, highlighting the policy and regulatory challenges that need to be addressed for SAF industry to flourish in Europe. He advocated for the introduction of important flexibility levers as part of the EU’s RefuelEU Regulation, including a book and claim system and more allowances for those airlines who are early adopters of SAF. .
The recent SAF tests conducted on the Charleroi-Budapest route by Wizz Air were discussed in detail. Participants explored key aspects, including passenger survey findings from the trials, a detailed analysis of SAF technology and its environmental impact, and a thorough review of operational procedures related to the use of SAF.
