Riga Airport secures €75 Million EBRD funding for terminal expansion
Riga Airport’s Board recently met with Matteo Patrone, Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to discuss the next steps in financing its terminal expansion project. The EBRD has approved up to €75 million in senior loan funding, with the final signing expected soon as the international tender reaches its final stage.
The expansion will add approximately 45,000 m² of new terminal space, including modern check-in hall, baggage handling and sorting areas, access roads, and a multi-storey car park. The airport aims to complete construction by 2029 while maintaining full operation of the existing terminal. The project also aims for BREEAM Excellent certification, underlining a commitment to sustainability.
When completed, the expanded terminal is expected to enhance Latvia’s regional connectivity and economic resilience. It will support growing passenger numbers (2.7 million served between January and May 2025, 7% more than the previous year) and boost trade, tourism, and innovation.
