Norwegian airports take further steps in the setup of zero- and low-emission aviation test arena
The cooperation agreement between Avinor and the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which establishes Norway as an international test arena for zero- and low-emission aircraft, is entering a new phase. The partners have now invited aviation stakeholders to express interest in testing and demonstrating zero- and low-emission aircraft in Norway.
Interested producers and operators must be able to submit an operating concept and respond to predefined qualification criteria within the following main areas: climate and environment, innovation, maturity, execution, and value creation. Initial dialogue with the market has already started.
The applications must contain at least the following information:
- Information about the company, visions and plans
- Aircraft concept (capacity (PAX/cargo), energy carrier, range)
- Initial plan for testing and demonstration at the test arena
The process of testing and demonstration is made up of five phases:
- Initial dialogue, which, if successful, results in the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI)
- Development of a high-level Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
- Development of a detailed CONOPS, which, if successful, results in the signing of a binding agreement for the use of the test arena
- Preparative phase
- Testing and demonstration
This is a unique opportunity to advance fossil-free air transport, as Norway is the only such testing site globally.
