Non-aeronautical revenue in Europe: ACI-data backed insights forecast lagging growth in passenger spend
In a new series of articles, backed by data from ACI, forecasts show that growth in passenger spend at European airports will lag behind the rest of the world in years to come. Blueprint looks at exactly how this trend is manifesting, and what airports can do to buck the trend and fully support airport revenue growth.
The first article reveals the forecasting, covering the period 2023-2030 based on an analysis of more than 200 airports. Whilst total worldwide airport retail, F&B and duty-free concession revenue will grow an average +5.1% per year until 2030, Europe will be in the slow lane at +3.8%. The article explores the reasons behind this – from shorter dwell times at European airports to a changing shopper landscape.
The second article explores the role of food & beverage (F&B) in supporting airport revenue growth – highlighting the megatrend of airport culinary experiences, and a more general preference for more gastronomic cuisine as F&B spending is on the rise. The article explores how airports can tap into rising F&B trends, such as plant-based and cultivated meat markets, in order to boost non-aeronautical revenue for the long term.
