New SESAR paper demonstrates potential of air-rail collaboration for passengers
A new paper, authored under the SESAR EU-funded SIGN-AIR project, demonstrates how better synchronisation between air and high-speed rail services can unlock multimodal travel across Europe. By viewing air and high-speed rail operators as not competitors, but collaborators, these stakeholders can work together to create a more efficient, sustainable, and interconnected transport network.
The paper, titled “air-rail connectivity index: A comprehensive study of multimodal journeys”, explores how this collaboration can be introduced – and revolutionise the travel experience.
By quantifying the quantity and quality of air-rail connections, the index provides a practical tool for transport operators: highlighting where multimodal coordination is strong and where it can be enhanced.
