New industry guidance shows benefits of sustainable taxi operations
EUROCONTROL’s Airport Operations Team (AOT) Sustainable Taxiing Taskforce, co-chaired by ACI EUROPE and EUROCONTROL, has delivered a high-level CONOPs (Concept of Operations & Industry Guidance) that shows the potentially significant effect of sustainable taxi operations on overall sustainability goals for airports.
The document reveals that emission reductions of up to 400kg of CO2 are possible (standard LTO taxi-out times, A320 family), as well as having significant benefits for noise reduction and improvement of air quality. Findings include a 40% reduction in emissions when sustainable Taxi-Out and Taxi-In options are used, compared to Single Engine Taxi Operations. The document concludes with a recommendation for sustainable taxi solutions to be seen as a serious consideration as part of overall sustainability goals within the airport industry.
