New fleet of electric buses in operation at Munich Airport
Munich Airport has taken a significant step towards its “Net Zero 2035” sustainability goal by receiving its first ten electric buses. These buses, equipped with advanced air conditioning and safety features, are part of a larger initiative to reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency. By the end of 2024, an additional 27 buses will join the fleet, with the option to acquire 25 more. The airport aims for 50% of its apron vehicle fleet to be emission-free by the year’s end, with the entire fleet to follow by 2030.
The electric buses, particularly efficient for short distances at low speeds, offer spacious designs to accommodate passengers and crew comfortably. This initiative is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport and the European Recovery and Resilience Facilities under the “NextGeneration EU” program. The project highlights Munich Airport’s commitment to pioneering sustainable operations, ensuring a greener future for passengers and the aviation industry.
