Milano Linate turns its own runway into a stage for 3,000 runners, for one night only
On the night of Friday, 19 June 2026, Milano Linate’s runway belonged to runners: no departing or arriving flights, no passengers, just three thousand people, ground lighting, an illuminated hangar, and the adrenaline of running where planes usually fly. It was a 10 km non-competitive race held entirely on the airport’s own runway, closed to air traffic for the occasion and returning after a two-year pause.
The whole experience is built around the idea of a journey through the airport itself. Runners receive a boarding pass instead of a race number, pass through security checks, and reach a dedicated gate, just as if they were a passenger, whilst the airport’s hangar is transformed into a party area with music and pre-race entertainment. The most anticipated moment of the night arrives after the landing of the last scheduled flight of the day, when the runway officially becomes the runners’ territory.
Demand for the 2026 edition was extraordinary: the 3,000 available places sold out in just over an hour, compared to two weeks for the 2024 edition.
