London Luton Airport reports record job numbers and local growth
London Luton Airport has published its latest Sustainability Report, which shows that the airport now supports around 28,000 jobs and generates approximately £830 million annually for the local economy. In 2024, more than half of its supply chain spending – approximately £110 million – was allocated to over 300 businesses within a 25-mile radius of the airport, demonstrating a strong commitment to the local area.
Direct jobs at and around the airport have reached a record 14,000. The report also highlights Luton’s progress in sustainability. The airport has achieved Level 4 in the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme and has been recognised as a sector leader in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark for two consecutive years.
Looking ahead, the airport plans to grow under a UK Government-approved framework called Green Controlled Growth. This would allow Luton to handle up to 32 million passengers a year and could create 11,000 new jobs while making sure environmental impacts like noise and emissions are kept under control.
