London Luton Airport expansion approved
The UK government has approved the expansion of London Luton Airport, allowing it to increase its annual passenger capacity from 19 million to 32 million. This significant development is expected to create up to 11,000 new jobs and contribute an additional £1.5 billion to the economy each year.
The project includes the construction of a new terminal and enhancements to existing infrastructure. Importantly, the expansion will follow a ‘Green Controlled Growth’ strategy, implementing legally binding limits on noise, carbon emissions, air quality, and surface access to ensure sustainable development.
This approval represents a major opportunity for the region, combining economic growth with strong commitments to environmental sustainability. With every 10% rise in air connectivity linked to a 0.5% increase in GDP, the UK Government’s approval of the airport’s expansion is a positive example of how infrastructure projects can support both the economy and community.
