London Gatwick first airport with an electric vehicle charging station
London Gatwick has become the first international airport to open an Electric Forecourt®, a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging station.
The facility has 30 electric vehicle chargers powered by 100% net zero energy, available 24 hours a day, and can add up to 160 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes. The station itself offers high-speed Wi-Fi, an interactive EV experience area, a lounge area, a convenience store, and a café.
The station is located on the Ring Road South approach to London Gatwick’s South Terminal and is a part of Gatwick’s plan to make 60% of journeys to and from the airport zero or ultra-low emission by 2023, in line with the hub’s sustainability objectives.
With a firm focus on decarbonisation, including absolute emissions reductions and commitment to addressing scope 3, London Gatwick has recently achieved Level 4+ ‘Transition’ of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme – the only institutionally endorsed, global carbon management certification programme for airports.
