Irish Taoiseach commits to law to remove Dublin Airport passenger cap
Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin has stated the Irish Government has made a ‘very clear decision to remove the cap’ at Dublin Airport.
The passenger cap at Dublin Airport has been in place since 2007, and was initially designed to limit traffic congestion to and from the airport. Taoiseach Martin has stated the cap belongs to a ‘different era, a different set of circumstances’.
Concurring with Taoiseach Martin’s comments, the Irish Department of Transport has recognised the strategic importance of Dublin Airport, stating it is Ireland’s ‘primary international gateway’ and also recognises ‘the contribution it makes to our economy’.
The Department of Transport has confirmed that work is progressing on preparing legislation to remove the cap. In parallel, daa, the airport operator, is progressing a planning application that seeks to build additional infrastructure to facilitate airport growth.
