First ever guidance on assisting passengers with non-visible disabilities supports airports in becoming more disability-aware
ACI EUROPE expanded the body of knowledge on passenger experience with the publication of its latest guidance document: Assisting Passengers with Non-Visible Disabilities. As the first comprehensive guidance globally on this subject, it blazes the trail for airports worldwide to become more accessible and inclusive by breaking down any remaining barriers to travel.
Passengers with non-visible or less visible disabilities have historically been included within the broader category of passengers requiring airport assistance, and as such have been included in airport services. The development of this dedicated guidance reflects the rapidly evolving context in which accessibility and inclusivity have gained a new momentum, calling for the needs and expectations of all passengers to be met with utmost consideration.
Assisting Passengers with Non-Visible Disabilities is a unique tool supporting airports in gaining deeper understanding of the potential range of non-visible disabilities and the associated barriers to travel. Furthermore, it helps navigate the processing of sensitive information from passengers regarding their needs and expectations in order to provide them with the best care throughout their journey.
The guidance document includes and extensive pool of case studies from ACI EUROPE members and partner organisations who have pioneered disability-aware solutions and processes at their sites. We thank Aena, Athens International Airport, Dublin Airport, London Gatwick Airport, ENAC, and Manchester Airport for their invaluable contributions.
