European Commission opens call for evidence on EU Aviation State Aid Guidelines
The European Commission has opened a public call for evidence about the need for revision and a potential prolongation of the European Union’s guidelines for State Aid (public support) to airports. This initiative aims to revise the guidelines on state aid in the aviation sector and align them with the objectives of the Green Deal, while preserving connectivity and supporting competition in the aviation sector.
The European Commission’s Directorate for Competition (DG COMP) is looking for information to justify the continuation of rules that allow aid to support operating budgets of small airports (<3 million passengers per annum).
Anyone who is interested in or might be affected by an existing or proposed law or policy can share their views through the Commission’s portal, linked below. This includes airports, public national, local, and regional authorities, businesses, civil society organisations, and individual citizens. As such, airports may want to encourage their local partners and governments to respond. ACI EUROPE’s State Aid Taskforce is preparing a response.
