EU launches recommendations to boost women’s participation in the transport sector
With women making up just 22% of the transport workforce across the EU, the EU’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport has launched an initiative offering practical advice to attract and retain more women in the industry.
The recommendations focus on improving work-life balance, ensuring equal pay, and fostering inclusive career development, all of which can support recruitment and retention in key transport – and airport – roles. The recommendations also encourage the use of mentorship programmes, flexible working conditions, and more inclusive hiring practices that look beyond rigid qualifications.
The initiative also focuses on the added benefits of a more diverse and equitable workforce: such as better service quality that more accurately reflects the needs of all transport users. It also highlights the need to strategically secure the sector’s sustainability and resilience in the face of future challenges that accompany the green and digital transitions.
