Economic, social, and environmental value of regional air transport highlighted in new landmark report
The European Regions Airline Association has commissioned a report by Oxera that provides a comprehensive analysis of how regional air transport benefits Europe economically, socially, and environmentally.
The report highlights how regional air transport sustains thousands of jobs, generates economic growth and provides welfare by strengthening Europe’s connectivity – particularly in remote and underserved areas – as well as contributing to Europe’s ambitious decarbonisation targets.
New data shows that in 2023, European regional air transport supported 335,100 jobs and generated €23.1 billion in GVA (gross value added) through its direct, indirect and induced effects. It stressed the role regional air transport plays as a vital lifeline for remote communities, highlighting the irreplaceable nature of air transport medically: transporting patients, doctors and other medical professionals, and emergency supplies.
