EASA launches public consultation for proposals on drone airworthiness and certification
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has published a public consultation (Notice of Proposed Amendment (NPA)) to gather feedback from aviation stakeholders and the public on draft proposals regarding the initial and continuing airworthiness of certified unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
The proposed amendments include updates to the existing acceptable means of compliance and guidance material. The primary goals of the draft proposals are to:
- Ensure a high and uniform safety standard for certified UAS operating in the ‘specific’ category,
- Provide guidance to EU Member States’ authorities on applying UAS Regulations,
- Support the implementation of the new UAS regulatory framework,
- Assist stakeholders in understanding the new regulations.
Additionally, the proposals aim to address the unique challenges posed by UAS, compared to manned aviation.
