EASA and EUROCONTROL collaborate on joint assessment of gate-to-gate CO2 emissions
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and EUROCONTROL have jointly validated a methodology for calculating gate-to-gate CO2 emissions based on actual fuel burn, supporting efforts to monitor and reduce aviation emissions.
Developed by EUROCONTROL within its Performance Review Commission, the approach uses radar and aircraft performance data to calculate emissions on a flight-by-flight basis, with results available via the Aviation Intelligence Unit’s Gate-to-Gate dashboard.
Collaboration with EASA enabled further refinement using real flight data. The validated and agreed methodology and outcomes have been published in a joint report, which also identifies specific areas for further refinement. Both organisations hope that the assessment will serve as an ongoing basis for monitoring progress in reducing emissions and making aviation more sustainable.
