Budapest Airport to get a third terminal and transport upgrade
Hungary is set to get a significant upgrade to its Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport with the addition of a third terminal and improved transport links to the capital. Economy Minister Marton Nagy made the announcement on July 9th, 2024, stating that construction is expected to begin no earlier than 2032, with an estimated cost of around €2 billion.
The airport, recently acquired by the Hungarian state-owned company Corvinus Zrt. and French co-owner VINCI Airports, has seen significant growth in passenger traffic in recent years. With the addition of a third terminal, the airport is expected to handle up to 25 million passengers annually by 2040.
In addition to the new terminal, there are plans to enhance road and rail connections to the airport, making it even more accessible for travelers. There’s also the possibility of involving a Qatari investment fund as a third investor in the project.
