Brussels South Charleroi advocates for staff wellbeing with new respect campaign
Brussels South Charleroi Airport has launched a new awareness campaign titled “Cool, Relax & Respect – We work for you”, aimed at tackling aggression towards staff. In 2024, the airport reported 77 incidents involving passengers acting aggressively, including 11 physical assaults. By mid-2025, a further 38 cases had been recorded, with 19 involving physical violence.
According to the airport, most incidents are caused by frustration stemming from delays, long queues, unexpected charges, or issues with travel documents. In response, staff have received training in conflict management, and support systems have been introduced for employees affected by abuse. Offenders may be denied boarding or face legal action, depending on the situation.
To spread the message, the airport is using colourful posters featuring its rabbit mascot, Charlie, which depict real-life situations. Staff will wear campaign lanyards, and passengers may receive luggage tags or small gifts for children. The main goal is to remind travellers that airport teams are there to help, and everyone deserves to work and travel in a respectful environment.
