Athens International Airport announces €806 million bond loan for expansion
Athens International Airport has secured a bond loan worth €806 million in order to finance a major expansion of their facility. Prior to the loan agreement, Athens International Airport management announced a three-stage expansion plan aimed at increasing the passenger capacity of Greece’s busiest airport to 50 million passengers by 2045.
Utilising the loan, Athens International Airport plans to expand the main terminal by 81,000 square meters, expand baggage handling facilities and increase the number of departure gates. Additionally, 32 new plane slots have been announced as well as plans for a new VIP terminal. The expansion will also include a multi-storey parking garage and modernisation of the surrounding road network in order to facilitate the increase in traffic to the airport.
