Arlanda Airport introduces innovative air traffic approach concept
Stockholm Arlanda has become the first airport in Europe to implement a new air traffic approach concept that enables more curved, efficient landing paths, aiming to improve capacity and reduce emissions.
This innovation is designed to raise landing capacity per hour, improve efficiency during peak arrival periods, shorten flight paths and reduce emissions. Airlines that choose to use this method must have specially authorised aircraft and pilots, but Swedavia says the approach will enhance operational performance and environmental outcomes.
The change aligns with Arlanda’s sustainability objectives and the broader aviation industry’s efforts to reduce fuel burn and noise impacts in sensitive areas.
