Airport Carbon Accreditation recognised as the best sustainability initiative of the year at World Associations Congress
ACI EUROPE’s Airport Carbon Accreditation was honoured this month with the Sustainability Advocate Award 2024 at the prestigious International & European Association Success Awards.
The Awards as a whole recognise the important role trade associations play in leading and supporting their sector and profession with their initiatives. The Sustainability Advocate award in particular aims to recognise a new sustainability initiative driving consistently improved sustainability results in a particular sector.
The Award was given in recognition of Airport Carbon Accreditation’s topmost accreditation, Level 5, that was launched last year at the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference (COP28) in Dubai, UAE. Level 5 is a trailblazing initiative on a global scale defining a blueprint for Net Zero carbon balance achievement at an airport through reaching and maintaining ≥90% absolute CO2 reduction in Scope 1 and 2, and commitment to Net Zero in Scope 3 by 2050. As such, it will be a key instrument driving global aviation’s full decarbonisation by 2050. So far, 14 airports have achieved this level of carbon management maturity.
