ACI EUROPE President represents airport industry at Clean Transition Dialogue on Clean Mobility
ACI EUROPE President Armando Brunini represented the airport industry at the recent Clean Transition Dialogue on Clean Mobility (8 April), chaired by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The event aimed to consider the most appropriate ways to progress decarbonisation by consulting selected voices within the transport industry. In the presence of European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič and Transport Commissioner Adina Valean, ACI EUROPE’s President called for a fair and sensible balance between the regulatory framework necessary for decarbonisation, and the financial support and accompanying measures needed to make it a success.
These calls include EU-level financial support for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, as aviation has notably been kept out of significant EU funding steams such as Next Generation EU. More support is also needed to bridge the price gap between SAF and conventional jet fuel, including through the establishment of a Book & Claim mechanism and the extension of the SAF Allowance Mechanism under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). Through these measures, adequate funding for decarbonisation will be possible on an EU-wide level, rather than being left to the individual funding of each Member State – avoiding distortions within the Single Aviation Market and promoting European cohesion.
ACI EUROPE looks forward to continued engagement with the EU institutions and to further contribute to EU climate action on behalf of the airport industry.
