ACI EUROPE inks Memorandum of Understanding with ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East on the creation of a new Net Zero Roadmap programme
The two ACI regional offices have joined forces to advance airport industry decarbonisation in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region through the establishment of a brand new programme.
With this leading initiative, ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East will assist airports in their region in developing comprehensive roadmaps towards net-zero emissions, and encourage achievement of the brand new Level 5 of the only global carbon standard for airports, Airport Carbon Accreditation. The new initiative in Asia-Pacific and Middle East has gained endorsement from Airport Carbon Accreditation, noting the complementarity between the two programmes and the joint objective and strategic priority to fight the existential threat of climate change.
The new initiative builds on a strong track record of airport climate action in the region. Asia-Pacific and Middle East is the second most engaged region in Airport Carbon Accreditation with 85 airports currently holding accreditation at one of the available levels. Notably, Christchurch Airport was the only airport outside Europe to have reached Level 5 accreditation upon its launch at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023.
More information on the Net Zero Roadmap programme will be made available soon.
