ACI EUROPE and EUROCONTROL release climate adaptation briefing
At the Airports Innovate conference in Rome, EUROCONTROL, in collaboration with ACI EUROPE, have released Adapting Aviation to a Changing Climate – Briefing.
Presented by Marilyn Bastin (Head of Sustainability at EUROCONTROL) and Alexandre de Joybert (Director of Sustainability at ACI EUROPE), this briefing identifies some of the key effects and impacts of climate change for airports, ANSPs and airlines and provides a starting point for carrying out a climate change risk assessment.
Whilst airports proactively strive to decarbonise and reach net zero by 2050, climate change effects are a present issue. Climate-related disruption is already more extreme and frequent, impacting aviation today. This briefing intends to provide airports with a solid outline of the climate risks each region may experience, and a recommended method by which airports can get started with their own climate risk assessment and subsequent adaptation.
Notably, the briefing addresses that climate change disruptions will impact the different regions of Europe in diverse ways, and offers a comprehensive framework under which airports can begin to adapt to their unique situation.
