12.5 million litres of SAF to be available annually at Farnborough Airport
Farnborough Airport, in the UK, has signed a deal with Hydrogen Refinery to supply 12.5 million litres of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) annually – all made locally from waste materials.
The airport already has a track record of proactive SAF distribution, having sold over 2 million litres of 38% blended SAF since 2021. This new deal comes as newly introduced SAF mandates will require a significant uptick in SAF manufacturing to meet future demand. Hydrogen Refinery’s unique process – the plasma electrolyser system – is low-cost and carbon negative, as local waste is used and processed without emissions from incineration or landfill.
Farnborough airport is currently accredited at Level 4+ under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, having also completed a lightweight solar installation, allowing it to produce 25% of its own energy.
